Second Hand Trauma:
Second-hand trauma is subtle and can creep up on you before you know it…..the key is to take care of yourself before it bites.
What is it?
When you are exposed to other people’s trauma and you find yourself living with fear, pain and helplessness etc. similar to the traumatized person. This can be as painful and hurtful as 1st hand trauma.
How does this happen?
This can happen by helping traumatized people; being around a family member who has been traumatized and those with PTSD.
How does it show itself?
Loss of energy, depression, anxiety, muscular tension, flashbacks, heightened sense of cynicism and distrust of others, and many more ways.
Can this be worked through?
And can you find a sense of calm and peace and more energy and confidence in yourself? Yes indeed.
